Job Description

Position Overview:

As the Seafood Manager at Central Market you will oversee the daily operations of our seafood department, ensuring that we provide the highest-quality seafood offerings to our customers. A deep knowledge of seafood—its varieties, sourcing practices, preparation methods, and storage requirements—is essential for this role. You will ensure that every product meets our standards for quality, freshness, and sustainability while delivering an exceptional shopping experience to our customers. You will manage a team, maintain product inventory, recommend product strategies, and work closely with divisional support to maximize sales.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Knowledge: Apply deep expertise in seafood to educate customers on different varieties, preparation techniques, sustainability practices, and cooking tips.
  • Department Leadership: Lead and inspire a team of seafood specialists, ensuring top-notch service, product knowledge, and operational efficiency. Train and develop staff on seafood identification, handling, and customer service. Write department schedules.
  • Sales & Merchandising: Develop and implement merchandising strategies to highlight premium and seasonal seafood items. Drive sales through product placement, promotions, and seasonal offerings. Maintain vendor relationships and partner with divisional support to maximize sales, reduce shrink, generate new business and maintain current client relations.
  • Inventory & Ordering: Manage seafood inventory, ensuring the proper stock levels while minimizing waste. Place orders with vendors and suppliers based on customer demand, seasonal availability, and trends.
  • Quality Control: Oversee the receiving, storage, and display of all seafood products to ensure they meet the company’s high standards for quality and freshness. Ensures that all government and company regulations and standards for product freshness, safety, refrigeration and sanitation are met
  • Customer Experience: Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, recommending products, and ensuring that all customers have an enjoyable shopping experience. Works with other department managers and Chef team to effectively deliver amazing results to our customers.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure that all seafood products are handled in compliance with food safety regulations and company standards. Oversee cleanliness and organization of the seafood department.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: experience in seafood management, or a similar role within a high-end grocery, specialty market, or culinary environment. Experience working with premium and sustainable seafood.
  • Expert Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of different types of seafood, including fish, shellfish, crustaceans, and their sourcing, handling, and preparation. Understanding of seafood sustainability practices.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate a team. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage inventory, ordering, and product displays.
  • Food Safety: Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in seafood handling and storage.
  • Passion for Quality: A genuine passion for high-quality products and the ability to convey that passion to customers and staff alike.
